QMP Acid and Alkali Security Cupboards

An acid and alkali security cupboard is a reinforced, lockable cabinet for storing corrosive substances where stronger protection against unauthorised access is required. Typical locations include laboratories, factories, workshops, maintenance departments and controlled industrial storage areas.

The QMP security range uses fully welded 1.5 mm mild steel, a seven-lever safe lock, full-length heavy-duty hinges and concealed fixings. These features provide stronger physical access protection than a standard workplace acid or alkali cupboard.

Acids and alkalis are chemically incompatible and should normally be stored separately. Check each substance safety data sheet and follow the segregation controls identified through the workplace COSHH assessment.

Five cupboard sizes are available:

• 900 × 460 × 460 mm with one shelf
• 1200 × 900 × 460 mm with two shelves
• 1200 × 1200 × 460 mm with two shelves
• 1800 × 900 × 460 mm with three shelves
• 1800 × 1200 × 460 mm with three shelves

Select the size according to the number, dimensions and weight of the containers, available floor space and doorway access.

Each cupboard is fitted with a seven-lever safe lock. The lock, welded steel construction, heavy-duty hinges and concealed fixings help restrict access to authorised personnel.

Yes. The cupboards include adjustable galvanised spill-retaining shelves and an integral liquid-tight sump. These features help restrict minor leaks inside the cabinet but do not replace compatible containers, routine inspections, absorbent materials or workplace spill-response procedures.

No. A secure cupboard can support storage and access controls identified through a COSHH assessment, but the cupboard alone does not establish compliance. Employers must also assess exposure risks, follow safety data sheets, label containers correctly and maintain suitable handling, inspection and emergency procedures.

Do not assume that an acid and alkali cupboard is suitable for flammable liquids. Storage should be based on the substance safety data sheet, container type, quantity and workplace risk assessment. Flammable liquids may require a separately specified cabinet.

A reaction-to-fire classification does not mean that the cupboard provides a tested period of fire resistance. It should not be interpreted as automatic approval for storing flammable substances or as a replacement for a purpose-designed fire-resistant cabinet.

The cupboards have a white powder-coated finish with Germ Guard Active Technology paint. Hazard warning labels are also supplied to identify the intended chemical-storage use.
