High-Security Acid and Alkali Cupboards for Corrosive Chemical Storage
QMP acid and alkali security cupboards provide reinforced, lockable storage for corrosive chemicals in laboratories, factories, workshops, maintenance departments and controlled industrial areas. They are designed for workplaces that require stronger protection against unauthorised access than a standard acid or chemical storage cupboard.
Each cupboard is manufactured in the UK from fully welded 1.5 mm powder-coated mild steel. A seven-lever safe lock, full-length heavy-duty hinges and concealed fixings provide robust physical access protection. The white Germ Guard Active Technology finish creates a durable surface for demanding commercial and industrial environments.
Adjustable galvanised spill-retaining shelves allow the internal layout to accommodate different container sizes. An integral liquid-tight sump helps restrict the spread of minor leaks inside the cabinet, while supplied hazard warning labels make the intended storage purpose clear to employees and authorised users.
Five acid and alkali security cupboard sizes are available, ranging from compact 900 mm-high cabinets to full-height 1800 mm cupboards with up to three adjustable shelves. Select the appropriate model according to the number, dimensions and weight of the containers, available floor space, doorway access and the controls identified through the workplace COSHH assessment.
Acids and alkalis are chemically incompatible and should normally be stored separately. Before ordering, review each substance safety data sheet, chemical concentration, container material, storage quantity and segregation requirements. Flammable liquids, oxidising agents and other incompatible substances may require separately selected safety cabinets.
A secure cupboard can support chemical-storage and access controls, but the cabinet alone does not establish COSHH compliance. Employers must also assess exposure risks, label containers correctly, restrict access and maintain suitable handling, inspection and spill-response procedures.
- Fully welded 1.5 mm mild-steel construction
- Seven-lever safe lock for restricted access
- Full-length heavy-duty hinges with concealed fixings
- Adjustable galvanised spill-retaining shelves
- Integral liquid-tight sump for minor leak containment
- Five UK-manufactured cupboard sizes

Acid and Alkali Security Cupboard FAQs
What is an acid and alkali security cupboard?
An acid and alkali security cupboard is a reinforced, lockable cabinet for storing corrosive substances where stronger protection against unauthorised access is required. Typical locations include laboratories, factories, workshops, maintenance departments and controlled industrial storage areas.
How does a security cupboard differ from a standard acid cupboard?
The QMP security range uses fully welded 1.5 mm mild steel, a seven-lever safe lock, full-length heavy-duty hinges and concealed fixings. These features provide stronger physical access protection than a standard workplace acid or alkali cupboard.
View our standard acid and alkali cupboards where enhanced security construction is not required.
Can acids and alkalis be stored together?
Acids and alkalis are chemically incompatible and should normally be stored separately. Check each substance safety data sheet and follow the segregation controls identified through the workplace COSHH assessment.
Which acid and alkali security cupboard sizes are available?
Five cupboard sizes are available:
- 900 × 460 × 460 mm with one shelf
- 1200 × 900 × 460 mm with two shelves
- 1200 × 1200 × 460 mm with two shelves
- 1800 × 900 × 460 mm with three shelves
- 1800 × 1200 × 460 mm with three shelves
Select the size according to the number, dimensions and weight of the containers, available floor space and doorway access.
What locking system is fitted to QMP acid security cupboards?
Each cupboard is fitted with a seven-lever safe lock. The lock, welded steel construction, heavy-duty hinges and concealed fixings help restrict access to authorised personnel.
Do acid and alkali security cupboards include spill containment?
Yes. The cupboards include adjustable galvanised spill-retaining shelves and an integral liquid-tight sump. These features help restrict minor leaks inside the cabinet but do not replace compatible containers, routine inspections, absorbent materials or workplace spill-response procedures.
Does buying an acid security cupboard establish COSHH compliance?
No. A secure cupboard can support storage and access controls identified through a COSHH assessment, but the cupboard alone does not establish compliance. Employers must also assess exposure risks, follow safety data sheets, label containers correctly and maintain suitable handling, inspection and emergency procedures.

Can flammable liquids be stored in an acid and alkali cupboard?
Do not assume that an acid and alkali cupboard is suitable for flammable liquids. Storage should be based on the substance safety data sheet, container type, quantity and workplace risk assessment. Flammable liquids may require a separately specified cabinet.
Compare other hazardous substance storage cabinets before selecting a product.
Are acid and alkali security cupboards fire resistant?
A reaction-to-fire classification does not mean that the cupboard provides a tested period of fire resistance. It should not be interpreted as automatic approval for storing flammable substances or as a replacement for a purpose-designed fire-resistant cabinet.
What finish is used on QMP acid and alkali security cupboards?
The cupboards have a white powder-coated finish with Germ Guard Active Technology paint. Hazard warning labels are also supplied to identify the intended chemical-storage use.
Are QMP acid and alkali security cupboards manufactured in the UK?
Yes. QMP acid and alkali security cupboards are designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom for professional workplace use.

How are acid and alkali security cupboards delivered?
Delivery is normally made kerbside to an accessible mainland UK address. Larger cupboards may arrive palletised on a commercial vehicle, and suitable unloading arrangements may be required.

Security and Access Control
The welded cabinet body, seven-lever safe lock, heavy-duty hinges and concealed fixings provide stronger physical access protection than a standard acid or alkali cupboard. Access should remain restricted to authorised personnel and managed through the site chemical-storage procedures.
Acid and Alkali Segregation
Acids and alkalis are chemically incompatible and should normally be stored separately. Review each substance safety data sheet and follow the segregation requirements identified through the workplace COSHH assessment.
Do not treat the cupboard as universal storage for every corrosive, hazardous, oxidising or flammable substance. Suitability depends on the chemical classification, concentration, quantity, container material and compatibility with the cupboard and other stored substances.
Spill Containment
Adjustable galvanised spill-retaining shelves and the integral liquid-tight sump help restrict the spread of minor leaks inside the cupboard. These features do not replace compatible containers, routine inspections, absorbent materials or a documented spill-response procedure.
COSHH Responsibilities
An acid and alkali security cupboard can support storage and access controls identified through a COSHH assessment, but the cupboard alone does not establish compliance. Employers must also assess exposure risks, label containers correctly and maintain suitable handling, inspection, training and emergency procedures.
Reaction-to-Fire Classification
Where an EN 13501-1 reaction-to-fire classification applies, it describes how the classified product reacts when exposed to fire. It does not provide a tested fire-resistance period and should not be interpreted as automatic suitability for storing flammable liquids.
Choosing the Correct Cupboard
Check the external dimensions, internal shelf arrangement, container sizes, total stored weight, chemical compatibility and available floor space before ordering. Doorways, corridors, lifts and unloading access should also be checked for the larger cupboard models.
For standard corrosive chemical storage, compare our acid and alkali cupboards. For other reinforced chemical-storage options, see COSHH security cupboards and hazardous substance security cupboards .
