Bench Seating for Changing Rooms and Locker Rooms

Changing room benches are an essential component of safe, organised locker rooms in schools, leisure centres, gyms and workplace environments across the UK. Properly specified bench seating provides stable support for changing footwear and clothing while maintaining clear circulation routes and effective supervision.

Designed for high-traffic communal areas, commercial bench seating delivers durability, hygiene and long-term structural reliability. Materials, fixing methods and layout configuration all influence performance in busy changing environments.

Total Locker Service supplies a comprehensive range of changing room bench seating, including wall-mounted, freestanding, single-sided and double-sided configurations. Options are available for dry locker rooms as well as wet-area installations, making the range suitable for refurbishment projects and new-build facilities nationwide.

What Are Changing Room Benches Used For?

Changing room benches provide seated support when changing footwear or clothing in communal environments. They are typically positioned alongside lockers, cubicles or wall runs to maintain clear walkways and safe supervision lines.

Depending on layout requirements, benches may be wall-mounted to maximise floor space, freestanding for flexible positioning, or double-sided for central placement within larger locker rooms.

Bench Seating for Schools, Leisure Centres and Workplaces

Schools and Colleges

In education environments, bench seating supports safe and structured pupil movement during lesson transitions. Reduced-height options are available for junior changing rooms, while robust standard-height units suit secondary schools and colleges. Open bench designs help staff maintain clear sightlines, and durable finishes with rounded edges withstand daily use while keeping cleaning simple.

Leisure Centres, Gyms and Swimming Pools

For leisure centres, gyms and swimming pools, bench seating is often installed alongside lockers to create clear, practical changing zones. Wet-area-safe options are available where moisture resistance and wash-down cleaning are required.

Workplace and Industrial Changing Rooms

In workplace and industrial locker rooms, durable bench seating improves staff comfort while supporting orderly layouts that comply with health and safety expectations.

Bench Seating Options for Different Environments

Bench seating must suit the environment it is used in. Different settings place different demands on durability, hygiene, fixing methods and supervision, and choosing the correct bench type improves safety, comfort and long-term performance. The two main constructions we supply — powder-coated steel with hardwood slats, and all-plastic seating — each suit different changing room conditions.

Standard Range and Custom Bench Seating

We supply both wet and dry area seating with 3-day delivery to UK mainland from our standard range, featuring grey frames and premium Ash hardwood slats.

We provide a comprehensive range of changing room seating for leisure and commercial locker rooms. Our product range comprises benches specifically designed to withstand the rigours of modern changing room environments, engineered to minimise whole-life costs whilst maximising durability and user comfort.

We provide seating solutions tailored to your specific requirements. Let us design custom benches to fit your changing room perfectly, or choose from our standard benches available in 1000mm, 1200mm, 1500mm and 2000mm lengths. Standard seats are available from stock with grey frames and Ash hardwood slats; custom changing room bench lengths are available with a 3-week lead time.

Changing room benches are commonly installed alongside locker systems to create organised, easy-to-supervise changing areas.

Metal Bench Specifications

Frame: Manufactured from robust 40mm x 40mm ERW steel tube for maximum strength and stability.

Finished with a silver/grey architectural powder coat over a BZP (bright zinc plated) undercoat as standard, providing superior rust protection in damp environments.

Wooden Slats: Premium 80mm x 25mm ash timber, professionally sanded, sealed and polished with a tough, hard-wearing lacquer for long-lasting performance.

Feet: Adjustable threaded end caps fitted as standard, enabling the bench to be moved without scratching or damaging flooring.

Plastic Bench Seating

Our range of plastic benches is completely rust-free and designed for easy deep cleaning and maintenance. This product is ideal for swimming pool changing rooms, workplace wet areas, and industrial environments where hygiene is paramount.

Our standard range includes single bench seats, double bench seats, single-sided bench seats with integrated hook boards, and double-sided bench seats with hook boards. Standard seat depths are 350mm and 450mm, with lengths of 1000mm, 1500mm and 2000mm available. Seating is available in six vibrant colours: blue, cream, red, grey, yellow and aqua.

Products are available with a 3-week lead time; expedited delivery can be arranged for urgent requirements. If you require specific product dimensions, we can manufacture benches to your exact specifications.

Our plastic seating is manufactured from 100% high-grade plastic, offering significant advantages: lighter weight and more comfortable handling compared to wooden or metal benches, with no risk of splinters, chipped paint, or jagged edges. The non-porous surfaces wipe clean effortlessly, will not rot or rust, and actively inhibit bacterial growth in shower areas, wet/dry environments, and changing rooms.

We supply benches in easy-to-assemble kit form with comprehensive instructions. Seating can be installed as free-standing units or secured with wall/floor fixings, and professional fixing kits are available as an optional extra.

Changing Room Bench Seating FAQs

What materials are best for changing room benches?

Changing room benches are typically manufactured using powder-coated steel frames combined with hardwood slats, laminate, or high-grade plastic. Steel provides structural strength and corrosion resistance, while timber and laminate offer comfort and durability. In wet or high-humidity environments such as swimming pools and leisure centres, all-plastic bench seating is the most hygienic and moisture-resistant option.

What length should a changing room bench be?

Standard changing room benches are commonly supplied in lengths between 1 metre and 2 metres. Allowing approximately 450–600mm of seating space per person helps maintain comfort and safe circulation. Benches can also be installed in continuous runs along walls or between locker banks to suit larger changing areas.

What width and height should changing room seating have?

Single-sided changing room benches are typically around 350mm wide, while double-sided benches are closer to 450mm. A seating height of approximately 430–480mm suits most adult users. Many benches include adjustable feet to allow accurate levelling on uneven or tiled floors.

Are changing room benches suitable for wet or humid areas?

Yes. Changing room benches are available in designs suitable for both dry and wet environments. Powder-coated steel frames help resist corrosion, while plastic bench seating is fully waterproof and easy to clean. These options are commonly specified for swimming pools, leisure facilities and wash-down areas.

Are accessible changing room benches available?

Yes. Accessible changing room benches are available with supportive handrails and adjusted seating heights. These designs help organisations meet UK accessibility and equality requirements and ensure inclusive use for people with reduced mobility.

Do you provide installation and layout support?

Yes. Total Locker Service offers design guidance, delivery and installation support for changing room bench projects. Our team can advise on suitable bench layouts, fixing methods and sizes to match your space, usage level and environment. Custom bench lengths and configurations are also available where required.
