Private-Function Locker Access

Private function is designed for situations where the same person uses the same locker, cabinet or cupboard repeatedly. Once the four-digit code has been selected, it continues to operate the lock until the code is changed.

Suitable applications for the KL10 private-function lock
Environment Typical Use
Workplaces Permanently allocated staff lockers and personal storage
Schools and colleges Lockers assigned to individual pupils or staff members
Offices Personal cupboards, drawers and assigned storage cabinets
Healthcare premises Compatible staff lockers in dry internal areas
Commercial premises Assigned storage for employees and authorised personnel

This private-function version is not intended for public-use lockers where each new user needs to select a temporary code. A public-function lock should be selected for changing-room, visitor or leisure-centre lockers that are repeatedly reassigned throughout the day.

Four-Digit Mechanical Operation

The user enters the stored four-digit combination and rotates the outer casing to move the lock between its locked and unlocked positions. Visible indicators provide a quick check of the current lock status.

Mechanical operation removes the need to manage batteries, charging schedules, electrical wiring, software or network access. The lock should still be inspected periodically to confirm that the casing, spindle, cam and locker door continue to operate correctly.

Changing the Combination

The code can be changed while the KL10 remains installed. With the lock in the open position, the current combination is entered and the reset button is held while the new four-digit code is selected.

The new combination should be checked before the locker door is closed. Codes should be changed when a locker is assigned to a new user or where the existing combination may have been disclosed.

Code Retrieval and Management Access

A separately supplied Code Finding Key allows authorised personnel to retrieve a forgotten combination or obtain emergency access. The key is inserted while the lock is in the locked position and is used to identify the stored number on each dial.

The Code Finding Key is not required for normal user operation. Management keys should be recorded, kept securely and issued only to authorised personnel.

Everyday access Enter the stored four-digit code Assigned locker user
Change combination Use the reset control while the lock is open Locker user or authorised administrator

New and Retrofit Installation

The KL10 can replace a compatible cam lock on an existing locker, cupboard or cabinet. It can also be fitted to a new door that does not already have a locking device.

The standard fixing pack includes the KL10 lock, a hex nut, a 44.7mm straight cam and a fixing screw. An additional fixing pack containing a cranked cam, metal clip, washer and extra screws is available separately where the door construction requires it.

Compatibility should be checked before ordering. Confirm the door thickness, spindle-hole size, cam length, cam direction, available fixing space and clearance behind the door.

A public-function lock should be selected for visitor, changing-room or leisure-centre lockers that are repeatedly reassigned to different users throughout the day.

Four-Digit Mechanical Access

The user enters the stored four-digit combination and rotates the outer casing to operate the lock. Locked and unlocked indicators provide a clear visual reference to the current lock position.

Mechanical operation eliminates battery replacement, charging, electrical wiring and electronic programming. The lock should still be inspected periodically to ensure that the cam, spindle, casing and locker door continue to operate correctly.

Benefits of KL10 mechanical operation
Feature Practical Benefit
Keyless user access Reduces reliance on individual locker keys
Four-digit combination Provides up to 10,000 possible codes
Mechanical operation No batteries, charging or electrical connection
Private function Supports repeated access by an assigned user
Code-retrieval facility Supports authorised access when a code is forgotten

Changing the Combination

The combination can be changed while the KL10 remains installed. The lock must be open and the existing combination must be known before the reset control is used to select a new code.

Always test the new combination several times while the locker door remains open. This confirms that the new code has been stored correctly before the door is closed.

The combination should be changed when a locker is assigned to a new user, when the existing code may have been disclosed or when the organisation's access-control procedure requires it.

Code Retrieval and Management Access

Normal users operate the KL10 without a key. A separately supplied Code Finding Key allows authorised personnel to retrieve a forgotten combination and obtain management access where required.

The Code Finding Key should be recorded, stored securely and issued only to authorised members of staff. It is not supplied with every individual lock unless specifically stated in the product selection.

Function Operating Method Responsible User
Everyday access Enter the stored four-digit combination Assigned locker user
Change combination Use the reset control while the lock is open Locker user or authorised administrator

Retrofitting the KL10 to Existing Lockers

The KL10 can replace many compatible cam locks and hasp locks fitted to metal locker doors. The existing lock is removed before the KL10 is positioned through the door and secured using the appropriate fixing components.

An additional fixing hole may be required above the existing spindle hole. Installation time depends on the locker construction, existing door preparation and the tools available.

The KL10 can also be fitted to a suitable new locker, cupboard or cabinet door that does not already have a lock. Accurate drilling and cam alignment are essential to ensure reliable operation.

KitLock KL10 Combination Lock FAQs

What is the KitLock KL10 used for?

The KitLock KL10 provides four-digit mechanical access to compatible lockers, cabinets and cupboards. It is designed primarily for permanently assigned storage used repeatedly by the same person.

Is the KL10 a private-function or public-function lock?

The KL10 described on this page is a private-function lock. Its stored combination remains active until it is deliberately changed, making it suitable for permanently assigned lockers.

Is the KL10 suitable for shared-use lockers?

It is not intended for public-use lockers that are reassigned to a new user after each visit. For gyms, leisure centres and visitor lockers, compare the combination locker lock range and select a public-function model.

Does the KL10 require batteries or electricity?

No. The KL10 is fully mechanical and does not require batteries, charging, electrical wiring, software or a network connection.

How many combinations does the KL10 provide?

The four numerical wheels provide up to 10,000 possible combinations, ranging from 0-0-0-0 to 9-9-9-9.

Does the user need a key to operate the KL10?

No. Normal user access is controlled by the stored four-digit combination. A separately supplied Code Finding Key is intended for authorised management use rather than everyday locker access.

What happens when a user forgets the KL10 combination?

Authorised personnel can use a separately supplied Code Finding Key to retrieve the stored combination. The management key should be kept securely and issued only to approved staff.

Is the Code Finding Key included with every KL10?

No. The Code Finding Key is normally sold separately. Confirm whether a management key is required when ordering individual locks or a larger locker-lock system.

Can the KL10 combination be changed?

Yes. The combination can be changed while the lock remains fitted. The lock must be open and the current code must be entered before the reset control is used to select a new combination.

Can the KL10 replace an existing locker lock?

The KL10 can replace many compatible cam locks and hasp locks. An additional fixing hole may be required, and the door thickness, spindle hole, cam length and internal clearance must be checked before fitting.

Can the KL10 be installed on a new locker door?

Yes. It can be installed on a suitable locker, cabinet or cupboard door that does not already have a lock, provided the required holes and cam alignment can be created accurately.

What is the maximum door thickness for the KL10?

The standard KL10 fixed-spindle configuration is suitable for compatible doors up to 18mm thick.

Is the KL10 suitable for left-hand and right-hand doors?

Yes. The KL10 has a non-handed design, although the cam position, direction of rotation and locker-frame arrangement must still be checked during installation.

Can the KL10 be used outdoors or near swimming pools?

The KL10 is intended for internal use. It should not be selected for exposed outdoor locations or chlorine-rich swimming-pool environments unless the manufacturer confirms suitability for the precise conditions.
