What Are Security Cables Used For?
Security cables are physical anti-theft solutions designed to secure laptops, monitors, tools and shared equipment to fixed anchor points, helping reduce opportunistic theft in workplaces and public environments. Manufactured from steel-reinforced cable with protective coatings, security cables provide a visible deterrent while allowing equipment to remain accessible for everyday use. They are widely used in offices, schools, colleges, retail displays, healthcare settings and shared buildings where devices need to stay in place without being locked away. Available with keyed or combination locking mechanisms, security cables offer flexible protection for desks, trolleys, display units and workstations. Unlike cabinets or electronic systems, security cables require no power or specialist installation, making them a simple and cost-effective way to improve asset protection in high-traffic environments.
Security Cables & Cable Locks by Total Locker Service
Total Locker Service supplies a wide range of security cables and cable locks designed to restrict unauthorised removal of valuable items in shared or supervised environments. These products are commonly used to secure laptops, tools, bags and equipment to fixed points such as lockers, benches or structural fittings. Suitable for schools, workplaces, leisure facilities and public buildings, security cables form an effective part of a wider physical security strategy where reliable, low-maintenance protection is required.
Used across offices, schools, leisure centres, universities, retail stores and industrial settings, our cable lock solutions combine simplicity with durability. They provide a practical alternative to heavier or permanent locking systems where flexibility and ease of use are important.
Security Cables vs Locking Cabinets
Security cables provide flexible, low-profile theft deterrence by tethering equipment to fixed anchor points, while locking cabinets offer enclosed storage and higher physical protection. Cables are ideal for laptops, monitors and shared devices that need to remain accessible, whereas cabinets suit items requiring full enclosure or higher-risk storage. The right choice depends on access needs, risk level and the environment in which the equipment is used.
Where Security Cables Are Commonly Used
- Offices and agile workplaces – securing laptops, monitors and docking stations in hot-desking and shared work areas.
- Schools and colleges – protecting IT equipment in classrooms, libraries and study spaces without restricting access.
- Retail displays – tethering demonstration laptops, tablets and electronic products to reduce opportunistic theft.
- Healthcare environments – securing shared devices and medical equipment in wards, clinics and treatment rooms.
- Public buildings and shared spaces – providing visible theft deterrence for equipment in reception areas, meeting rooms and visitor zones.
Flexible Protection for Portable Equipment
Our anti-theft security cables and cable locks are ideal for securing portable or high-value items that require temporary or semi-permanent protection. Common applications include:
- Laptops and desktop computers in shared workspaces
- Gym and leisure equipment in communal areas
- Bicycles in indoor or covered storage zones
- Tools and machinery in industrial settings
- Lockers and cabinets in schools, offices and public facilities
These solutions are particularly useful where many users require access to equipment or where fixed installations are not practical. Lightweight, portable and easy to use, security cables provide peace of mind in both temporary and permanent setups.
- Integrated locking design – combines a steel security cable with a built-in lock.
- Deterrent theft protection – discourages opportunistic removal of assets.
- Flexible application – suitable for lockers, laptops, tools and shared equipment.
- Simple installation – no power or specialist fitting required.
- Ideal for shared environments – offices, education, leisure and workplaces.
Security cables are often used alongside other locker security solutions and laptop charging lockers to reduce theft and improve asset control in shared environments.
Durable, High-Strength Construction
All our security cables are manufactured from high-tensile steel wire with a protective outer coating to prevent damage to secured items. The cables are resistant to cutting and tampering, while remaining flexible enough to thread through handles, anchor points or locker doors with ease.
A range of cable lengths and diameters is available, from compact laptop tethers to heavier-duty options for securing larger equipment. Each cable can be paired with keyed or combination locking mechanisms, giving organisations control over access management.
Keyed and Combination Cable Lock Options
Total Locker Service supplies both keyed and combination security cable locks. Keyed options are ideal for controlled staff access or master-key systems, while combination cable locks are popular in public or shared facilities where key management is impractical.
- Keyed security cables – supplied with individual or master-key access.
- Combination security cables – resettable 3- or 4-digit codes for keyless use.
If you are unsure which option is best for your site, our team can advise on the most suitable solution based on environment, usage and risk level.
Customisation and Bulk Supply
We can supply security cables and cable locks in custom lengths or configurations to suit specific requirements. Options include keyed-alike systems, master-key access and colour-coded cables to support asset identification.
Discounted pricing is available for bulk orders, with ongoing support for education, healthcare, government and commercial clients requiring consistent supply.
Why Organisations Choose Security Cables
Organisations choose security cables as a simple, cost-effective way to protect valuable equipment in shared or supervised environments. They provide immediate physical restraint without the need for power, configuration or ongoing maintenance, while allowing authorised users continued access to equipment.
What Problem Security Cables Reduce
Security cables help reduce opportunistic theft and unauthorised movement of portable items in areas where constant supervision is not practical. By securing equipment to fixed points, they act as both a physical barrier and a visible deterrent, supporting better asset control and reducing replacement costs.
What are security cables used for?
Security cables are used to secure portable or shared items to fixed anchor points, helping reduce the risk of unauthorised removal. They are commonly used to protect laptops, lockers, tools and equipment in offices, schools, gyms and other shared or public environments.
Do security cables prevent theft?
Security cables are designed to deter opportunistic theft by acting as a visible and physical restraint. While no product can guarantee complete prevention, security cables significantly reduce casual removal in unsupervised or high-traffic areas.
Are security cables suitable for laptops and IT equipment?
Yes. Security cables are widely used to secure laptops, monitors and other IT equipment to desks or fixed structures, allowing devices to remain accessible while reducing theft risk.
