Phoenix Battery Fighter Lithium-Ion Battery Charging Safes

The Phoenix Battery Fighter BS0440 series provides lockable storage with internal power sockets for charging compatible lithium-ion and rechargeable batteries. The range is designed for domestic, workplace and commercial environments where batteries and chargers need to be stored together in a controlled cabinet.

Rechargeable batteries can present a fire risk if they are damaged, defective, incorrectly charged or exposed to excessive heat. A site risk assessment, suitable charger, correct electrical supply and appropriate operating procedures should be used alongside the cabinet.

Suitable Battery Applications

Phoenix Battery Fighter safes can be used to store and charge compatible batteries for:

  • Power tools and cordless workshop equipment
  • Garden tools and grounds-maintenance equipment
  • E-bikes and electric scooters
  • Drones and surveying equipment
  • Laptops, tablets and mobile phones
  • AAA, AA, C, D and 9V rechargeable batteries

Always follow the battery and charger manufacturers’ instructions. Batteries that are damaged, swollen, recalled, leaking or overheating should not be placed on charge.

Charging Socket Options

Phoenix Battery Fighter charging capacity
Cabinet model Power distribution units Charging sockets
BS0441 Two double PDUs Four sockets
BS0442 Three double PDUs Six sockets
BS0444 Four double PDUs Eight sockets

Fire-Test Scope

BS0441 and BS0442 models are stated as tested to NT Fire 017-90 Paper. The larger BS0444 is stated as tested to NT Fire 017-120 Paper.

These ratings relate to the protection of paper documents under the relevant test conditions. They should not be described as certification that the cabinet will contain or suppress a lithium-ion battery thermal-runaway event.

Impact Testing

The cabinet range is stated as fire and impact tested from a height of 9.1 metres. This test assesses resistance to the impact associated with a safe falling through the burning floors of a building.

Cabinet Construction

Battery Fighter cabinets use double-wall construction with an internal fill of Styronite F insulation. The insulated construction is intended to provide cabinet strength and resistance to external heat.

Battery Fighter cabinet features
Internal fittings Height-adjustable shelves, a pull-out drawer and internal key hooks
Floor fixing Prepared for floor fixing with bolts supplied for a suitable concrete floor
Warning labels Safety warning labels stated as conforming to ISO 3864 and ISO 7010
Finish Scratch-resistant white paint, RAL 9003
Optional monitoring Internal temperature monitoring with an external display and alarm

Battery Fighter Locking Options

Phoenix BS0440 lock options

K Key lock Supplied with two keys
E Electronic lock Electronic code access with a scrambled-code function
F Touchscreen and fingerprint lock LED display, internal alarm, dual control, hidden-code and scrambled-code functions, with capacity for up to 32 fingerprints

Optional Internal Temperature Monitoring

An optional monitoring system provides an external display of the cabinet’s internal temperature. An alarm can provide an early warning of an abnormal temperature increase, allowing site procedures to be followed before conditions escalate.

Temperature monitoring is an additional warning feature. It does not replace supervision, battery inspection, electrical checks or an appropriate emergency-response plan.

Cash and Valuables Guidance

Phoenix states a recommended overnight cash risk of £2,500 or a valuables risk of £25,000. These figures are guidance and do not guarantee insurance cover. Confirm the cabinet model, location and installation requirements with the relevant insurer.

Charging should follow the battery and charger manufacturers’ instructions. Do not charge batteries that are damaged, swollen, leaking, recalled, excessively hot or otherwise suspected of being defective.

The cabinet should form part of a wider battery-management procedure that includes inspection, charger control, electrical checks, emergency procedures and an appropriate site risk assessment.

Phoenix Battery Fighter FAQs

What is a Phoenix Battery Fighter safe?

A Phoenix Battery Fighter is a lockable insulated cabinet with internal power sockets for storing and charging compatible lithium-ion and rechargeable batteries. The BS0440 range includes BS0441, BS0442 and BS0444 cabinet sizes.

What is the difference between BS0441, BS0442 and BS0444?

The models differ in size, capacity, weight, shelf quantity and number of charging sockets. BS0441 has a 63-litre capacity and four sockets, BS0442 has 84 litres and six sockets, and BS0444 has 163 litres and eight sockets.

Which locking options are available?

K models use a key lock, E models use an electronic code lock and F models use a touchscreen and fingerprint lock. Each cabinet size can be selected with one of these locking options.

How many batteries can a Battery Fighter hold?

There is no fixed battery quantity because battery and charger sizes vary. Select the cabinet using its internal dimensions, shelf layout, socket count and the space required around each charger.

How many charging sockets are provided?

BS0441 models have four sockets, BS0442 models have six sockets and BS0444 models have eight sockets.

Is the Battery Fighter certified for lithium-ion battery fires?

The stated BS0440 series fire tests are NT Fire 017 Paper tests for paper-document protection. They should not be described as battery-specific thermal-runaway containment or suppression certification.

Can damaged batteries be charged in the cabinet?

Batteries that are damaged, swollen, leaking, recalled, overheating or suspected of being defective should not be placed on charge. Follow the battery manufacturer’s safety instructions and the site’s emergency procedure.

Is internal temperature monitoring available?

An optional system provides an external temperature display and alarm. It can warn authorised staff of an abnormal rise in the cabinet’s internal temperature.

Does the cabinet need to be fixed to the floor?

The cabinets are prepared for floor fixing and are supplied with bolts intended for a suitable concrete floor. Confirm the floor construction, loading capacity and fixing method before installation.
