ASSA SENSE Stand-Alone MIFARE RFID Locker Locks
ASSA SENSE RFID locker locks provide keyless access to compatible lockers and storage cabinets using MIFARE contactless credentials. Users operate the lock by presenting an authorised card, fob or wristband instead of a mechanical key or PIN code.
Each lock is battery-powered and operates as an independent stand-alone unit. Standard ASSA SENSE locks do not require permanent wiring, a network connection or computer-based management software. They are suitable for new locker installations and selected replacement projects.
Public and Private Locker Operating Modes
ASSA SENSE can be configured for individually assigned lockers or shared day-use storage. The operating mode determines how users access and release a locker.
- Private mode: Registered credentials provide access to an assigned locker. Suitable for staff, workplace and personal storage lockers.
- Public mode: A compatible credential is used to secure an available locker. Once the locker is opened, it becomes available for another user. Suitable for leisure centres, gyms and shared changing-room lockers.
MIFARE RFID Cards, Fobs and Wristbands
ASSA SENSE operates using compatible MIFARE RFID credentials. Depending on the credential technology and system configuration, these may include contactless cards, key fobs and wristbands.
MIFARE is a family of contactless technologies, not a single universal credential format. Existing building-access cards, membership credentials and wristbands should therefore be checked for compatibility before ordering.
For projects using existing RFID credentials, provide the card specification or a sample credential so compatibility can be assessed.
User, Inspector and Master Credentials
Different credential levels allow normal users and authorised facilities staff to access lockers according to their assigned permissions.
- User credentials: Normal access to an assigned or temporarily occupied locker.
- Inspector credentials: Authorised operational access for designated facilities personnel.
- Master credentials: Administrative access and authorised emergency locker opening.
Compatible programming cards are used to configure access functions and operating settings. A copying card can assist with configuring multiple locks across a larger installation.
Battery-Powered Stand-Alone Operation
ASSA SENSE locks operate using three AAA batteries, removing the need to run electrical or data cables to individual locker doors.
Audible and visual indicators provide operating feedback. The manufacturer specifies approximately 15,000 openings per battery set, although actual endurance depends on usage and operating conditions.
If the internal batteries become depleted, temporary external power can be supplied through the Micro-USB Type B emergency connection. This allows authorised access to be restored so the batteries can be replaced.
The USB connection provides emergency power only. It does not provide remote management, data communication or permanent electrical power.
Locker-Door Thickness and Retrofit Installation
ASSA SENSE RFID locker locks are available with two barrel lengths:
- Short barrel: suitable for locker doors from 1 to 15 mm thick.
- Long barrel: suitable for locker doors from 15 to 23 mm thick.

ASSA SENSE may be suitable for selected retrofit installations. Existing fixing preparations may be reusable, although an additional upper fixing hole can be required.
Before replacing an existing lock, confirm the locker-door thickness, fixing-hole positions, operating direction, cam profile and locking-point engagement. A similar external appearance does not guarantee mechanical compatibility.
Dry and Wet-Area Locker Installations
Standard ASSA SENSE locks are intended primarily for dry indoor environments. Suitable installations in humid or wet areas require the manufacturer's specified rubber gasket.
The gasket does not automatically make every installation waterproof. The locker-door material, fixings, cleaning procedures and exposure to moisture must also be considered.
For swimming pools, leisure centres and other damp environments, confirm the appropriate gasket and installation requirements before ordering.
Compatible Locker Cams and Handle Protection
ASSA SENSE can operate with suitable ASSA ABLOY standard cams. The required cam depends on the locker construction, locking direction, door thickness and engagement with the frame.
The operating handle incorporates a torque-overload protected clutch to help protect the mechanism against excessive turning force.
Confirm the required cam profile and whether the correct cam is included with the selected lock before ordering.
ASSA SENSE and ASSA SENSE+ Systems
Standard ASSA SENSE is a stand-alone RFID locker lock configured using compatible programming credentials. It does not require computer-based management software.
ASSA SENSE+ is a separate system intended for installations requiring software-based administration, additional management functions or access to audit information.
The two systems should not be treated as interchangeable. Confirm the required lock version before specifying programming equipment or planning a managed locker installation.

ASSA ABLOY identifies separate accessories for programming and installing SENSE RFID locker locks. These should be considered when planning new installations or larger locker-bank upgrades.

Measure the locker-door thickness at the existing lock position before ordering. The barrel must accommodate the door material and allow the cam to engage correctly with the locker frame.
