QMP acid and alkali cupboards provide secure, clearly identified storage for corrosive chemicals used in laboratories, factories, workshops, maintenance departments and commercial workplaces. The white steel range includes floor-standing, wall-mounted, mobile and higher-security cupboards in several sizes.

Select the correct corrosive chemical storage cupboard according to the substances, quantities, container sizes, safety data sheets and controls identified through the workplace COSHH assessment. Acids and alkalis are chemically incompatible and should normally be segregated rather than stored together in the same cupboard.

QMP acid and alkali cupboards provide secure, clearly identified storage for corrosive chemicals used in laboratories, factories, workshops, maintenance departments and commercial workplaces. The range includes floor-standing, low-height, wall-mounted, mobile and higher-security models in several sizes.

Select the cupboard according to the substances, concentrations, quantities, container materials, safety data sheets and controls identified through the workplace COSHH assessment. Acids and alkalis are chemically incompatible and should normally be stored in separate cupboards.

The white finish distinguishes this specialist range from graphite-grey COSHH cupboards and yellow hazardous substance cupboards. Colour alone does not determine chemical suitability, so always check the product specification and relevant safety data sheets.

Choose the configuration according to the available space, container dimensions, required storage capacity and level of access control. Confirm the external and internal dimensions of the selected model before ordering.

Adjustable Shelves

• Adjustable spill-retaining shelves on applicable models

The 50 kg shelf capacity applies when the load is distributed evenly. Heavy containers should normally be positioned on lower shelves to improve stability and support safer handling.

Spill Containment

• Integral liquid-tight sump on applicable floor-standing cupboards
• Spill-retaining shelves help restrict the spread of minor leaks
• Wall-mounted cupboards may not include an integral base sump
• Suitable absorbent materials should be selected for the stored chemicals

Sumps and spill-retaining shelves support workplace spill-management procedures. They do not replace compatible containers, regular inspections, suitable absorbent materials or an established emergency response procedure.

Standard Locking

• Snag-free handles on applicable cupboard models
• Secure two-point locking on standard cupboards
• Keys supplied according to the individual product specification
• Helps restrict access to authorised workplace personnel

Cupboards should remain locked when not in supervised use where required by the workplace assessment or site procedure.

Higher-Security Models

• Seven-lever safe lock for increased access protection
• Heavy-duty full-length hinges on applicable models
• Concealed fixings help resist unauthorised access

Higher-security cupboards may be appropriate where the stored materials, workplace location or internal procedures require stronger access protection than a standard two-point locking cabinet.

Wall-Mounted Cupboards

• Compact chemical storage where floor space is limited
• Supplied pre-drilled for wall installation
• Wall fixings are not normally included
• Fixings must suit the wall construction and expected loaded weight
• May not include an integral liquid-retaining sump

Wall-mounted cupboards must be secured to a structurally suitable surface. The installer is responsible for selecting appropriate fixings and confirming that the wall can safely support the cupboard and its contents.

Mobile Acid and Alkali Cupboards

• Mobile configurations available within the range
• Suitable for controlled movement within workplace areas
• Containers must be closed and secure before the cupboard is moved
• Movement routes should be level, clear and suitable for the loaded unit

Mobile cupboards should only be moved by authorised personnel. They should not be used as general transport equipment for open, damaged or unstable chemical containers.

Optional Cupboard Stands

• Optional stands available for selected floor-standing cupboards
• Approximate stand height of 500 mm
• Adjustable foot helps compensate for uneven floors
• Raises the cupboard for easier access and floor clearance

Confirm that the stand is compatible with the selected cupboard before ordering. The installed cupboard must remain stable and level when fully loaded.

Chemical Compatibility and Segregation

• Review the safety data sheet for every substance
• Store acids and alkalis separately
• Keep chemicals in closed, correctly labelled containers
• Check that containers are compatible with their contents
• Segregate other incompatible substances where required
• Do not store oxidising or flammable products without confirming suitability

An acid and alkali cupboard should not be treated as universal storage for every hazardous substance. Separate, purpose-selected cabinets may be required for flammable liquids, oxidising agents or other incompatible chemicals.

Reaction-to-Fire Classification

• Selected products have a reaction-to-fire classification to EN 13501-1

EN 13501-1 describes how a classified product reacts when exposed to fire. It does not mean that the cupboard is a fire-resistant cabinet or that it is automatically suitable for storing flammable liquids.

Inspection and Maintenance

• Inspect the cupboard, shelves, locks and sump regularly
• Remove damaged or leaking containers promptly and safely
• Keep labels visible and replace them when damaged
• Clean spills using materials suitable for the chemical involved
• Do not exceed the stated shelf load
• Review storage arrangements when substances or quantities change
