Medical Records Shelving
PCT Records Department – Sussex
Medical Records Shelving, the Medical Records Department of this Sussex based Primary Care Trust was facing a problem familiar to all Medical Records Managers. Patient records were housed in a number of separate, off-site buildings. Access to case files needed to be improved to ensure that patients continued to receive a first class service, to enable medical professionals to provide quality care and to reduce administration costs.
The solution was to centralise all their medical records in a single location.
The Trust already owned an industrial warehouse which housed some of the medical records. When the connecting warehouse became vacant the PCT decided to acquire it and now the records from the satellite storage areas could be consolidated. The brief, set out by the Trust was to provide as much shelving capacity as possible within the warehouse, to meet current levels and to facilitate future expansion.

Storage Construction, the South’s leading supplier and installer of shelving, racking and storage systems were well known to the PCT having previously installed Möbilis mobile shelving, a mezzanine floor and offices into the first warehouse. They were now invited to install a mobile storage solution to the new warehouse. Managing Director, Vernon Holter explained, “ We started trading in 1979 and we have remained a family-owned business. We have a first-rate reputation for the
quality of our service. We take a close personal interest in all projects from the initial consultation stage, offering professional advice and planning, and following this through to the final design and order fulfilment.” Vernon Holter continued, “We had no hesitation in choosing Lion Steel Equipment Limited as our supplier. They had supplied the original mobile shelving system and the client was very pleased with the installation.”
Mistral adjustable shelving, mounted onto a Möbilis mobile base system was installed in two
phases. 3120 linear metres of shelving in phase one and a further 1560 linear metres in phase two. In all 585 bays of shelving. Each phase of this prestigious installation was completed on schedule and without disruption to the day-to-day operations of the department. An important element of this particular system is the finish. All surfaces are coated with Activecoat, a hard wearing, anti-bacterial epoxy-powder paint that reduces the danger of MRSA, E-Coli and Bacteria by 99.9% and will continue to work for the life of the coating.
