Locker Lock Conversion

Wold of Books asked if anything could be done to resolve their locker problems. In conclusion, the World of Books works a multiple shift system. The lockers are supposed to be used by the staff for a single shift. The current situation was that staff were personalising lockers along with a large number of keys had gone missing as staff changed. We were initially asked to change the locks to coin-operated locks though this was not possible with there current metal lockers.

Existing lockers
Existing lockers

Locking options

We presented two options for consideration out standard mechanical combination locks TLS4 and the electronic KL1000 combination lock.

Due to the complexity of the shifts and the goal of minimising the number of lockers they had by only making lockers available for one shift at a time. We recommended the KL1000 a good solid reliable electronic combination lock at a good price. The KL100 will help the management open locks that have been left closed at the end of the shift. The locks we programmed with a master code 6 digits along with a 4 digit sub-master. The 4 digit sub-master removes the need to use the master code and keep it secure. The 4 digit sub-master is much easier to use and can be easily changed.

Lock installation

Total Locker Service uses there own trained engineers to carry out installations. Our engineers have years of experience converting, servicing and installing lockers. We commenced the conversion as agreed one week from World of Books placing the order. Because they were in a rush to resolve the problems with the lockers. Our team arranged a convenient time and date for the lock conversion and our engineer worked through until completion. After that our engineer programmed the locks with a master and sub-master code.

World of Books benefits

Benefits of converting lockers from key locks to KL1000 electronic combination locks. As a result, all of there lockers are in use. In addition, thery have been able to reduce the number of lockers in there changing rooms. Resulting in more space which allowed them to install bench seating. In addition, the staff are more content as they now have lockers available for them to use during there shifts.

Coin operated £1 locks, Are you £1 ready Bourne Leisure is up and running!

Total Locker Service has been getting ready for the new £1 coin for the past two years with both new Product and Service.   One of the main areas we have concentrated on was checking with customers that they are using coin locks this involved a lot of Marketing and call customers to enquire on the locks they are using and could we assist them on planning for the new coin.

The £1 coin has changed

The £1 coin has new changed from the old round coin to a new slightly larger multi-sided coin, this has resulted in over 80% of coin locks over 12 months old not being able to accept the new coins.

Total Locker Service has a full range of cost-effective solutions to this problem so why not call us on 01284749211

Coin operated £1 locks

We have done a lot of Service and Maintenance for Bourne Leisure over the past years and this included all of the Haven Sites.  We were approached by Andy Bell at Bourne Leisure who wanted all of the Haven sites changing over to accept the new £1.

We carried out Site Surveys of all the sites this enabled us to work out what locks would work, needed new ones or could be converted the majority of the locks on site were Assa and Ojmar.   We compiled all this information with what Andy had sent over and worked on the price for him.

We were awarded this in February but with the holiday season soon to start for Haven we were on a very tight schedule to get all sites up and running by the end of March.  We worked in phrases around the country and the engineers worked a few early morning and late nights to get all this completed in time.

Helen worked closely with Andy on a weekly basis and sent him a schedule of works to keep him updated on all the sites and the progress this worked really well as some sites also, sent in Purchase Orders to cover Service and Maintenance and Parts.   We carried out this work at the same time as the preparing them for the new £1 coin this helped keep the labour cost down.

The work was completed by 24th March in time for Haven to open for the season and with the new £1 launched at the end of March, all sites were ready and fully functional.

Leisure Wrist strap

Over the years we have found the most commonly raised issue by our customers is the durability of straps as swimming pools are corrosive and aquatic environments.

With strap deterioration being a regular occurrence we have specifically designed a wrist strap made from quality highly flexible polymers for use in municipal pools to help reduce the frequency of replacement.

Since we started introducing this design into the market, we have successfully reduced the costs associated with replacing straps too many sites by around 80% making both budgets and changing room logistics more manageable

Our straps are available in a variety of colours and can be provided with numbering from 1 – 9999, the numbers are highly resistant to fading and will last 3 – 5+ years in normal usage.

Top 4 Security Concerns For Lockers

Top 4 Security Concerns For Lockers

Security Concerns For Lockers

Lockers come in handy for people who want to temporarily store their things in secure locations. There are several different types of lockers that provide this luxury. These lockers range from standard lockers to coin lockers and everything that falls in between. In most cases, there is some mechanism in place that is meant to keep the lockers secure. These mechanisms can be pre-installed locks, padlocks, or simply the material that is used to craft the locker. Although there are many benefits to using lockers, institutions need to be aware of the security concerns that can compromise lockers.

 Shimming

One of the main security vulnerabilities that plague lockers is the fact that they can be shimmed. This does not apply to every single locker, but mostly to those that utilize padlocks or spring-operated latches. In order to shim a lock, one would only require a thin piece of metal or plastic. This makes shims pretty easy to come by. The manner in which a shim works is very simple. It is basically used to retract the latch/locking pawl of a lock. In padlocks, this is done by creating a barrier between the locking pawl and the shackle.

The same concept applies to other types of locks that are not padlocks. As I said before, any lock that uses spring operated/spring loaded mechanisms is susceptible to shimming. Being able to identify this concern gives institutions the opportunity to work to rectify them. In the case of padlocks, it is always best to use padlocks that have ball bearings. Locks with ball bearings are much more secure and these will negate the possibility of the lock being shimmed.

 Cutting

As the sub-title suggests, this security concern is pretty straightforward. In lieu of shimming, criminals can opt to cut the locks that protect lockers. This is a major security concern that people need to be aware of because criminals tend to target the lockers that they know they can easily break into. As always, knowledge is key. Therefore, knowing that your lock can be attacked by cutting helps you prepare.

The main factors that will determine if your lock can be cut are material that is made of and the shackle size of the lock (if you are using a padlock). It is crucial to make sure that you use an appropriately sized shackle that does not give criminals enough room to cut between the lock and the hasp. Also, it is always best to use locks that are made from alloy metals, as these are some of the strongest locks on the market. These locks will offer up much more resistance to any criminal attempting to cut the lock.

 Picking

Lockpicking is very popular among criminals and enthusiasts alike. The only difference between the criminal and the enthusiast is that enthusiasts know not to pick a lock that does not belong to them, whereas the criminal really does not care. In this instance, it is important to be aware that lockers are highly susceptible to picking if there is a keyway. Essentially, if there is a keyway available, a criminal will most likely be able to pick the lock.

To circumvent this concern, it is best to use combination locks or electronic combination locks in lieu of padlocks or pre-installed locks with keyways. The use of combination locks takes the keyway off the table and minimizes the security vulnerabilities. Another available option simply involves upgrading to higher security locks that will be extremely difficult to pick. Institutions can enlist the help of locksmiths to upgrade some of their pre-installed locks, and as an additional security measure, it would be wise to rekey locks as well.

 Prying

This security concern focuses less on the locking mechanism and more on the locker itself. There are times where criminals will disregard the lock completely and decide to attack the door. In most cases, this occurs when they know that the hinges of the locker door are vulnerable and exposed, or that the material of the door itself is weak enough to be pried free.

It is important to make sure that the hinges for locker doors are facing inwards so that they are not exposed to criminals. If the hinges are facing outwards, it will be much easier for criminals to attack the hinges and pry them off. The material of the locker door is also very important. If the door is hollow and made of a weak metal, there will be very little in place to resist attacks from criminals.

Lockers

Conclusion

There is no doubt that lockers are a valuable asset, and they are a great storage tool. However, there are various security concerns that revolve around them. This is why it is important for people to be aware of the security vulnerabilities of lockers so that they can adequately guard against them, and keep their belongings safe.
