Anne Rivett MBE retires from Total Locker Service

Co-founder and Director of Total Locker Service retired on the 29th October 2014. Anne founded Total Locker Service with John Scott in 2008 as a new venture. Both Anne and John had previously been involved in the locker market for a number of years. If has been Anne’s determination and drive that has helped make Total Locker Service so successful. During the early years Anne and John worked nonstop in ensuring that Total Locker was successful. Anne’s contribution has been invaluable and she will be missed. We wish Anne all the best in her retirement, though knowing Anne it will not be  sedentary.

Frustration with broken lockers and missing keys in changing rooms led Anne to see a gap in the market. Her new business TOTAL LOCKER SERVICE supplies spares for any kind of locker or changing cubicle – any key, any lock, any door style – and provides service and new changing room equipment for the leisure and education sectors. Her small highly responsive team operates throughout UK and Ireland supplying large scale leisure companies, hotels, schools and colleges. The range of new products includes a wide range of lockers, cubicles, and other storage solutions, including electronic lockers and library shelving.

Anne launched the company in January 2008 with her business partner John Scott, and already the service business is growing fast. In the longer term Anne hopes to develop and produce innovative electronic locker options for integration with access control and facilities management.

In 2004 Anne was awarded the MBE for Services to Business in East Anglia. Her wide experience in managing large manufacturing, and property investment and other businesses has prepared her well for her new initiative. Anne has successfully transferred skills from previous experience in rearing a family and many years spent in Not for Profit concerns in the statutory and charitable sectors. Her first job was as a qualified teacher, followed by years as a family manager when she also had a number of voluntary and small business roles, including teaching, making curtains and running a playgroup and a teashop.

Originally teacher trained, Anne developed her skills through volunteering while bringing up her family. She became chairman, then director of a national children’s charity, chairman of a school Governing Body, and vice-chairman of N. Essex Health Authority.

In 1997 she became the MD at Helmsman, taking over the family business, a manufacturing company in Bury St Edmunds with 110 employees and a T/O of £7.5m. Shortly after she undertook an MBO in 1999.

Subsequently the company changed from being a metal locker producer to a changing room supplier, using innovative product design, to become the biggest manufacturer of electronically operated lockers in the UK. Sadly after 250 years of trading, the credit crunch took its toll, and the company was sold early 2008.

Anne is a recent past President of EEF (East Anglia), ‘The Manufacturers Organisation’ and in June 2004 was awarded the MBE for services to business in E. Anglia.
