Will the new coin fit into existing £1 coin Locks ?

No the size and shape of the new coin will require some modifications

Total Locker Service would like to help all our customers with the changeover to ensure customers get a smooth change and can look at all the options available now to avoid delays closer to the event.

The solution to new orders is simply to opt for the Adjustable version of the current coin lock you choose.

The beauty of this lock is that it can be adjusted simply with a template and small screwdriver and a replacement coin slot . WITHOUT taking the lock off the door, this will allow customers to run locks with both coin types as demand increases more locks can be adjusted.

But what about existing customers?

You can check if a lock is adjustable if there is a small notch in the top right of the lock, which is used to measure the coin size. If this is the case you can just supply a template and new coin slots when the new coins are introduced

If not then they can buy either new lock bodies to suit the new coin OR adjustable lock bodies now which can be gradually changed over to the new coin

Today is the last day the curent round £1 coin will be manufactured.

Status updat on new £1 coin

We have not tested the Ojmar adjustable lock with a new one pound coin and they function perfectly.

All that is needed is a new coin stricter and to adjust the lock mechanism.

Work instructions will be available nearer the time.

Make sure your coin locks that are 2017 new pound coin compliant

With the change announced to the British one pound coin to be introduced in 2017 all current coin locks taking the current pound coin are likely to need replacing.

As a result of the announced change to the pound coin in 2017 Total Locker Service in conjunction with Ojmar have introduced a range of £1 coin operated locks that are adjustable allowing them to be resized easily to accommodate new coin sizes. The locks can be adjusted by two discreet screws on the face of the lock. There is no need to remove the lock from the door. The only tools needed to adjust the locks is a screwdriver and a coin of the chosen size.

This range of locks includes a dry specification lock, wet specification locks with or without security key. All Ojmar locks have removable cylinders complete with 2 keys. All are lock cylinders have the key number engraved on the side of the cylinder so you know what key number to order.

We fit the dry specification lock to our Premium system 1300 range of lockers. The Lockers are available in both wet and dry specification. You have a choice of 1 to 6 doors in a wide range of sizes.

The lockers are versatile and hard wearing and available in a wide range of colours. The locker lock is mastered with a removable cylinder, supplied with two keys, the key number is etched on to the side of the cylinder to make ordering keys easy. The lock is adjustable so there will be no problems when the pound coin changes size.

Wembley Stadium Locker Lock Conversion

Lock conversion Total Locker service solves Wembley stadiums locker problem. The stadium has over 2000 staff lockers, the lockers were fitted with key locks. Managing the keys had become impossible with the constant flow of staff using the locker facility. Total Locker has worked with Wembley on a number of options including replacement lockers. One of the advantages they have is the quality of the Probe lockers, the lockers were in very good condition.

Finally, they decided on our option to replace the current locks with swivel hasp locks, this will remove the problems with management of keys. this is not the ideal solution although it is the most cost-effective. They will still need to deal with the issue of lost padlock keys or combinations. The advantages and disadvantages of each opposed option was clearly identified and communicated with the stadium staff. Total locker has provided four sets of bolt cutters for dealing with padlocks, that need removing through lost keys or forgotten combinations.

Our team of engineers have worked to their schedule, systematically working through the lockers and converting the cam locks to hasp locks, and replacing the current escutcheons where appropriate. They will also ensure that the lockers are functional and that any of the damaged locker doors are replaced.

Total locker service installed our System 2000 leisure lockers fitted with Ojmar OCS electronic combination locks. Our engineers also converted 32 locks on existing lockers from coin return locks to the Ojmar OCS electronic combination locks.

Our skilled engineers installed the System 2000 lockers and converted their existing lockers in a single one day visit.

Our System 2000 lockers are robust and durable lockers designed to stand up to large usage municipal leisure environments. The lockers have a robust Arpa or Formica compact grade laminate door with a wide range of laminate colours and wood effects. Compact grade laminate is a hardwearing and robust material that is completely waterproof. The lockers we installed had a two colour checkerboard design. The locker carcass is manufactured from aluminium with extremely robust plastic moulded shelf, bases and tops. The hinge design is low maintenance and has no finger traps.

In 2017 there will be a new one pound coin issued. The new £1 coin will have the same shape as the 12-sided three pence piece or ‘threepenny bit’.

What effect will this have most leisure centre coin locks are designed to use the current round 22.5mm coin. When the new coin is released, it is highly likely your locks will not work with the new coin.

Will I need to change my coin locks

There is currently only one manufacturer of locks that can be adjusted so that they can be used with the new coin. This manufacturer is Ojmar and not all there locks are adjustable.

The remaining lock manufacturers do not have firm plans in place to deal with this. Some will produce conversion kits some will factory rework the locks.

Don’t wait too long

When the coin is released there is likely to be a massive demand that the lock manufacturers can’t cope with. Coin lock lead-times are normally 4 working weeks and this will only increase nearer the coin release date. Finding that your lockers will no longer work with the new coin will generate massive logistic issues within the leisure centre.

Is there a get out of jail card?

You can always purchase a large number of £1 sized tokens, though controlling issue or getting your customers to purchase them will bring its own issues.

About the new coin

The proposed new coin will be roughly the same size as the £1 coin, and has a number of features which the Royal Mint confirms will make it the most secure coin in the world. These features include:

a bi-metalic construction, of two colours
12-sided design
the inclusion of the Royal Mint’s new iSIS technology, (Integrated Secure Identification System), which incorporates three tiers of banknote-strength security and can be authenticated via high-speed automated detection at all points within the cash cycle

The proposed new coin represents a great success for UK science and manufacturing. The new, world leading iSIS technology has been entirely developed in-house at the Royal Mint’s headquarters in South Wales.

Changing room equipment costs a lot of money so, if you look after your investment, you can avoid expensive and unexpected repair bills. You know too, that a good looking centre is good to work in, and attractive for your clientele.

We take product maintenance seriously, which is why we offer a range of packages to suit every type of locker area. Our packages include a free site survey to assist you with your servicing decisions and we offer 2 different service packages to meet the needs of different types of venue. We can service lockers, cubicles and benching.

We can do a one off service of all the lockers and changing cubicles on your site –
we will let you know the cost in advance. Normally the cost of servicing per locker door per visit is approx. £1.80* plus the cost of spare parts. * 2014 prices.

Based on a leisure centre with 200 locker doors. Or, you can have a service contract for up to 3 years. We do regular locker/cubicle servicing, aiming to achieve 100% working lockers and cubicles – if this is not achieved, we will let you know why.
If you take out a locker and/or cubicle service contract for 1 – 3 years, you also get savings on the spare parts prices. We will do site surveys free of charge and let you know the cost of a service.

Total Locker Service has won the tender to supply Leeds City Council with service and parts for their leisure facilities lockers. The contract will run for the next 3 to 4 years. Total Locker Service has been servicing the lockers at the Leeds centres since 2008. The contract is a fixed price service agreement, we provide parts and labour and charge Leeds City Council a fixed price for servicing each locker door.

During this period, we have serviced the lockers at Leeds it is the opinion of the service engineer that we have extended the lifespan of the lockers. A proportion of leisure centres lockers when in a poor start of repair when we started the locker service contract. These lockers have now been returned to a good state of repair arresting further degradation. This over the contract period has resulted in postponing replacing lockers and eliminating a large capital cost.

All our service engineers have CSCS cards and have been fully trained to be vulnerable adult and children aware. We are also registered with Constructionline our registration number is no. 146222.

Changing room lockers at Kerry Foods

We have provided Kerry foods with changing room lockers previously. On this occasion, the space constraints were even more challenging. They have 3potential areas to fit lockers none of which would hold all of them. They also had definite ideas of what they wanted from their lockers. They needed to accommodate 76 staff, eliminate the need for locker keys. To be able to see into the lockers without opening the doors to eliminate the need for time-consuming locker audits.

We at Total Locker Service interpreted their requirement produced a specification and presented it to management. The specification was accepted with the addition of a cardholder to identify the employee assigned the locker. Most of the lockers are sloping top with the exception on 4 where there was insufficient room high due to obstructions.

Total Locker Service have achieved Constructionline accreditation and is now listed on the constructionline web site which can be accessed by procurement officers.

What is Constructionline?

Constructionline was established in July 1998 when CMIS and ConReg were merged. The service is owned by the DETR but operated by private company Capita under a public-private partnership. The service prequalifies consultants and contractors for public sector work. It does this by assessing their financial and technical ability, based on criteria set by the DETR. The service is free to clients and the public, but you need a computer and modem to operate it. A client enters requirements such as job, cost and location, and Constructionline compiles a report detailing firms qualified to do the work.

Before buying lockers, consider future locker parts availability

When you make a major capital purchase you need to know that you will be able to purchase parts for your lockers for 10 years. If you are about to spend £30,000 on leisure lockers or £5,000 on metal lockers you would like to be confident that you can purchase locker parts.

This is not always the case we have had about four occurrences over the last 6 months where we have had requests from people unable to buy locker parts from major locker manufacturers. This has been made even worse by the fact that the lockers where only 4 to 7 years old.

For the majority of these we have been able to manufacture parts for the lockers. This is not always possible if extrusions or complex hinges are involved.

Locker parts

So when looking to purchase new lockers check the availability of parts and how long they guarantee parts supply. A locker with a slightly lower initial cost could work out to be a very expensive purchase.

We at Total Lockers support all are locker through our Parts and service team. We still support lockers that are over 25 years old.

Premium metal lockers

Our system 2000 leisure lockers and our System 1300 premium metal lockers are all supported by or parts promise.
Premium System 1300 lockers are available in 1 to 6 compartments with a wide choice of locking methods. Dimensions range from 225, 300, 380 and 450mm wide, 300, 380, 450 and 550mm deep and 1775mm high. All metal construction finished in powder finish in a wide range of colours.

Leisure lockers

System 2000 are available in 1 to 6 compartments. Standard locking is £1 coin return though a wide range of locking methods are available. Dimensions 1800mm high, 300 and 400mm wide, 450 and 500mm deep. Carcass is aluminium with plastic top, base and shelves. Locker doors are manufactured from Formica or Arpa compact grade laminate.
