Commercial Locker Installation Projects: Potters Leisure & Chatsworth House

Total Locker Service supplies and installs commercial lockers for workplaces, leisure facilities, visitor attractions, schools and other organisations across the UK.

Two examples are projects completed for Potters Leisure and Chatsworth House. Each site required a different approach to locker layout, compartment configuration, materials and appearance.

These installations demonstrate why commercial lockers should be specified around the people using them, the available space and the environment in which they will be installed.

Potters Leisure Staff Locker Installation

Total Locker Service has completed several locker projects for Potters Leisure. On this installation, the requirement was for staff lockers within male and female changing rooms.

The aim was to provide secure personal storage while making efficient use of the available changing-room space.

Optimising the Locker Layout

We worked with the Potters team to refine the layout and reduce unnecessary cost by improving how the lockers were arranged within the available space.

The final installation used a mixture of two-door and four-door steel lockers. This provided different compartment sizes while allowing the locker runs to make efficient use of the changing-room layout.

Red and blue doors were selected to create a distinctive finish within the staff areas.

Locker layout can have a significant effect on usable capacity. Locker width, compartment configuration, aisle space, benches, doorways, radiators and other fixed features all influence how many lockers can be installed safely and practically.

For more detailed planning information, see our locker layout planning guide.

Potters Leisure Installation

Our installation team attended the site, confirmed the final arrangement with the Potters team and completed the installation during the morning.

This helped minimise disruption to the staff changing areas while ensuring the lockers were positioned as planned.

Chatsworth House Visitor Locker Installation

Chatsworth House contacted Total Locker Service after seeing details of another locker project involving the Scottish National Gallery.

The requirement at Chatsworth was different from the Potters installation. These lockers were intended for visitor use, so appearance was an important consideration alongside durability, security and practicality.

Heavy-Duty Laminate Door Lockers

The agreed solution used three-compartment lockers with compact-grade laminate doors and sloping tops.

An Elegant Oak laminate finish was selected to give the lockers a warmer, furniture-style appearance suited to the surrounding visitor environment.

Compact-grade laminate doors can be useful where a project requires both durability and a more decorative finish. The steel locker body provides the main structure, while the laminate doors provide greater flexibility in appearance and surface finish.

Why Sloping Tops Were Used

The Chatsworth lockers were specified with sloping tops.

Sloping tops discourage bags, rubbish and other loose items from being stored above lockers and help keep the top of the installation clear.

They are particularly useful in public-facing, workplace and changing-room environments where cleanliness and appearance are important.

Chatsworth House Installation

The installation team attended Chatsworth House in the morning and completed the locker installation by around midday.

The completed installation provided secure visitor storage while using a finish selected to complement the surrounding interior.

Locking Options for Commercial Lockers

Commercial lockers can be supplied with different locking systems depending on how the site operates and whether lockers are permanently assigned or used temporarily.

  • Key-operated locks: suitable for straightforward staff storage and permanently allocated lockers.
  • Padlock fittings: allow users to secure lockers with their own compatible padlock.
  • Coin-operated locks: commonly used for temporary-use lockers in leisure and public environments.
  • Mechanical combination locks: provide keyless access without requiring electronic components.
  • Electronic and RFID locks: can provide managed keyless access for larger or more complex installations.

For current options, see our locker locks and replacement locking systems.

What These Locker Projects Demonstrate

Although both projects involved commercial lockers, the final specifications were different because the users, buildings and storage requirements were different.

  • Potters Leisure: focused on practical staff changing-room storage and efficient use of available space.
  • Chatsworth House: required visitor storage with greater emphasis on appearance and integration with the surrounding environment.
  • Locker configuration: compartment sizes should reflect what users actually need to store.
  • Materials: steel and laminate-door lockers suit different environments and design requirements.
  • Layout: careful planning can increase useful capacity and avoid unnecessary equipment.
  • Installation: access, positioning and disruption should be considered before delivery.

Planning a Commercial Locker Installation

A successful locker installation starts before the equipment arrives on site.

Important factors include the number of users, locker dimensions, compartment configuration, floor and wall conditions, door clearances, circulation space, benches, accessibility, delivery access and the method used to secure the lockers.

The installation requirement can also affect project cost, particularly where access is restricted, lockers need to be moved through difficult areas or work must be completed around an operational site.

Current Commercial Locker Options

Total Locker Service supplies commercial lockers for workplaces, schools, leisure centres, healthcare environments, visitor facilities and industrial sites across the UK.

Current product specifications may differ from the historic systems used for the Potters Leisure and Chatsworth House installations. New projects should therefore be specified using the latest product information and the requirements of the site.
