The locker depth you need depends on what users store, how much room you have, how the locker doors open and how people move around the space. Shallow lockers save floor space. Deeper lockers give more storage. The best choice is the depth that gives enough usable storage without making aisles, benches or access routes too tight.
Shallow lockers save floor space and improve aisle clearance, while deep lockers provide more internal storage for coats, bags, PPE and bulky items. The right locker depth depends on what users need to store, how much room is available and how the lockers affect movement through the space.

Locker room traffic flow is the way people move through a locker area during normal and peak use. Good planning reduces bottlenecks, door clashes, queueing, blocked aisles and collision points. It is especially important in schools, workplaces, gyms, factories and leisure changing rooms where many users may arrive, change or leave at the same time.
The minimum space for lockers depends on locker depth, door swing, user movement and whether people need to change, queue or pass behind each other. As a simple starting point, allow the locker depth plus at least 900 mm of clear standing space in front. For busier changing rooms, workplaces or school locker areas, plan for 1200 mm to 1500 mm or more in front of the lockers.
