Custom Wet-Specification Z-Lockers with Laminate Doors for J P Morgan

Total Locker Service supplied custom wet-specification Z-lockers for a J P Morgan project delivered with Modulek. The installation required two locker heights, aluminium carcasses, stainless-steel door frames, compact-grade laminate doors, stands and seat stands, all coordinated to create a consistent finished appearance despite restrictions created by the building’s windows.

The Project Requirement

The project required a locker installation that could work around existing building restrictions while still providing a consistent appearance across the finished changing area.

Window positions meant that a single standard locker height could not be used throughout the installation. Two different locker heights were therefore required, with a combination of stands and seat stands used to bring the finished installation into visual alignment.

Why Z-Lockers Were Used

Z-lockers provide two separate user compartments within the footprint of a full-height locker column. Their shaped internal layout can provide useful hanging and personal-storage space while increasing the number of individual locker positions available within a changing room.

For this project, the Z-locker format could be combined with the different cabinet heights needed to accommodate the window restrictions while maintaining a coordinated overall design.

Wet-Specification Locker Construction

The lockers and supporting stands needed to suit a wet-area specification rather than a conventional dry changing-room installation.

• Locker carcasses: aluminium.
• Door frames: stainless steel.
• Doors: compact-grade laminate.
• Finish: grey powder coating to the metal components.
• Locker identification: inset door numbers.
• Supporting frames: 25 mm tubular steel, zinc plated and powder coated grey.

The use of aluminium, stainless steel and compact-grade laminate provided a more appropriate construction for the required environment than a standard all-steel dry-area locker specification.

Compact-Grade Laminate Locker Doors

The Z-locker doors were manufactured from compact-grade laminate, providing a durable decorative surface suitable for demanding changing-room applications.

Matching compact-grade laminate end panels were also fitted to exposed ends of locker runs. This gave the installation a more finished appearance and reduced the visual difference between the exposed cabinet sides and the laminate doors.

Inset locker numbers were incorporated into the doors to provide clear locker identification without relying on separate surface-mounted labels.

Locker Stands and Seat Stands

The project used both standard stands and seat stands. These were not simply accessories added after the locker layout had been designed. They formed part of the dimensional solution needed to work around the window heights.

By combining different locker heights with the appropriate supporting frames, the installation could maintain a more uniform finished height across the locker runs despite the varying available space.

Seat stands also provided integrated changing-room seating beneath selected locker positions, reducing the need to treat lockers and benches as completely separate elements of the room layout.

Working to a Short Manufacturing Lead Time

The project also had a demanding programme. The required compact-grade laminate had to be secured during a period when several manufacturers were closing for summer holidays.

Total Locker Service had less than three weeks to secure the required laminate specification while maintaining the planned production schedule.

The lockers and stands were manufactured on time despite the restricted material-sourcing window.

Delivery Coordinated with the Installation Programme

Delivery also needed to match the progress of the installation rather than simply arriving as one isolated shipment.

Our carrier worked closely with Modulek so that deliveries could be coordinated with the installation programme. This helped the site team receive the lockers and supporting components in line with the speed of installation and reduced unnecessary handling on site.
