Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Garment Lockers: Project Case Study
January 1, 2020
Total Locker Service supplied 10-compartment garment dispenser lockers to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited as part of a workplace garment-management requirement.
The lockers formed part of the System 1900 garment-locker range available at the time of the project and were designed to provide controlled access to individually allocated garments while allowing authorised staff to load multiple compartments efficiently through a separate control door.
This type of garment dispenser is particularly useful where clean uniforms, workwear or other garments need to be issued to individual members of staff without requiring unrestricted access to the complete locker.
10-Compartment Garment Lockers for Sony
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe selected 10-compartment garment dispenser lockers, providing ten individually accessible storage compartments within each unit.
Each user accessed their own compartment through an individual locked door, while authorised personnel could open the main control door to gain access to all compartments for loading garments.
The arrangement allowed garments to be distributed in an organised and controlled way while reducing the need for staff responsible for garment issue to unlock individual doors one at a time.

How Garment Dispenser Lockers Work
A garment dispenser locker combines multiple individually locked compartments with a larger management-access door.
The system is designed so that authorised staff can open the control door and load garments into several compartments during a single operation. Once the control door is secured, employees access only the compartment allocated to them.
- Management access: a control door provides access to the full bank of compartments for loading.
- Individual access: each garment compartment has its own door and lock.
- Organised distribution: garments can be allocated by employee, department, shift or another internal reference.
- Reduced handling: staff can collect their own garments without requiring someone to issue each item manually.
- Modular installation: garment dispensers can be installed alongside garment collectors and other workplace lockers.
Original System 1900 Garment Locker Specification
The following specification relates to the System 1900 range supplied at the time of the Sony project. Current garment-locker specifications may differ, so customers should refer to the present product range when specifying a new installation.

Garment Locker Construction
The original System 1900 lockers were manufactured from powder-coated mild steel and designed for repeated use in workplace and industrial environments.
- Construction: steel components assembled using welded and riveted construction.
- Door frame: heavy-gauge mild-steel inner and outer frame assemblies.
- Hinge system: full-length hinge-rod construction designed to provide durable door support.
- Compartment doors: individually hinged doors with protective buffers to reduce damage during opening.
- Internal shelves: formed edges designed to provide a safer and more durable finish.
- Powder-coated finish: steel components finished to provide a durable surface suitable for commercial use.
Locking and Management Access
The original garment dispensers used a dedicated lock on the main control door together with individual locks on the user compartments.
This created two distinct levels of access: authorised staff could open the main door for garment loading and management, while users could access only their allocated compartment.
Numbering could also be applied to the inside and outside of compartment doors to make garment allocation and compartment identification easier.
Locker Stands, Sloping Tops and Installation Options
The System 1900 range could be configured with several optional features to suit the installation environment.
- Locker stands: raised the locker body above floor level to improve access for cleaning.
- Adjustable feet: helped accommodate uneven floors where specified.
- Sloping tops: discouraged items, rubbish and dust from accumulating on top of the lockers.
- End panels: provided a more finished appearance at the exposed end of a locker run.
- Additional security: enhanced locking arrangements could be specified for the main access door.
- Colour options: alternative body and door colours could be selected to suit the surrounding environment.
Garment Dispensers and Garment Collectors
Garment dispenser lockers are normally used as part of a wider workwear-management process rather than as standalone personal-storage lockers.
A dispenser provides controlled access to clean workwear or uniforms, while a garment collector can provide a central return point for used garments awaiting collection or laundering.
This arrangement can be particularly useful in factories, healthcare facilities, food-production sites, laundries, engineering environments and other workplaces where garments are issued and returned on a regular basis.
Current Garment Lockers and Workwear Storage
Total Locker Service continues to supply garment dispenser lockers and laundry lockers for controlled uniform, workwear and PPE management.
The current range includes garment dispensers, garment collectors and several locking options for applications including workplaces, healthcare, manufacturing, food production, changing rooms and laundry-management areas. Current configurations and specifications should always be checked against the live product range rather than relying on the historical System 1900 specification shown in this case study.
For wider workplace storage requirements, Total Locker Service also supplies workplace lockers for staff, PPE, uniforms and changing rooms.
Need Help Specifying a Garment Locker System?
The correct garment-storage system depends on the number of users, garment volume, issue and collection process, compartment capacity, available space and preferred locking method.
Total Locker Service can help specify garment dispensers, garment collectors and workplace locker systems for commercial sites across the UK.
